Disposable tags use a one-way locking mechanism — once tightened, the strap cannot be removed without cutting, providing tamper evidence. Reusable designs (split nylon or lever-release) allow deliberate, tool-free opening and reattachment, making them cost-effective for assets that are regularly re-tagged, relocated, or serviced.

UHF (860–960MHz) tags offer read ranges of 0.3–8m and are suited to bulk scanning, portal gates, and warehouse management systems. HF (13.56MHz) and NFC tags read at 0–5cm and are used where individual item confirmation by handheld device or smartphone is the primary workflow. Some tags in the range support both frequencies on the same platform.

The release lever (ABS RFID Cable Tie with Release Lever) can be opened by pressing a side button without tools — it is reusable and deliberate, but does not restrict who can open it.
